REC launches its most powerful rooftop solar panel yet

Published by

Solar energy company REC Group has launched its highest power residential solar panel ever, a high efficiency 470Wp panel based on advanced heterojunction cell technology (HJT).

Hailing from one of the more unlikely countries for a solar manufacturer, the Norwegian based REC Group launched its new 470Wp Tuesday at the RE+ 2023 conference in Las Vegas.

REC’s fourth product based on its “Alpha HJT” technology, the latest in its REC Alpha Series is expected to outperform competing TOPCon solar cells.

According to REC, the majority of today’s TOPCon solar panels come with a degradation of 0.4% per year and boast efficiency of 89% after 25 years. REC’s Alpha HJT panels, however, reach 25 years with 92% efficiency.

REC has already produced over 2GW of HJT solar panels, making them a leader in a technology many solar developers will eventually adopt.

“Bold innovations are more important than ever, as climate change mitigation and solar PV’s role here grow in importance,” said Cary Hayes, president of REC Americas.

“We believe that HJT holds immense potential for efficiency growth and is also the best option for future developments like tandem structures.”

In addition to the new 470Wp HJT panel, REC is also unveiling the new REC Alpha Pure 2, which boasts 430Wp and is also lead-free and RoHS compliant.
