Redflow integrates zinc-bromine flow batteries with Deye hybrid inverters

Brisbane based battery manufacturer Redflow has successfully integrated its zinc-bromine flow batteries with hybrid inverters from Chinese group Deye.

Redflow has developed a zinc-bromine flow battery that it claims is one of the world’s safest, scalable, and most sustainable energy storage solutions on the market.

Billed as also being one of the most environmentally friendly energy storage solutions – both fully recyclable and manufactured from widely available and low-toxicity materials – Redflow’s ZBM batteries can scale from tens of kilowatt hours to hundreds of megawatt hours.

The Deye inverter integrated with a ZBM battery offers the ability for a direct connection of solar and batteries in a three-phase grid connected inverter. The inverter can also continue charging batteries from solar PV even in the event of a grid outage, as well as a backup generator input.

“The Deye inverter simplifies the way customers connect to the grid and seamlessly integrates batteries and solar, which will be particularly beneficial for commercial and industrial customers,” said Tim Harris, Redflow CEO and managing director.

Integration testing was completed at Redflow’s Integration and Testing facility in South Australia by Redflow Battery Management System Architect, Simon Hackett. The Deye inverter demonstrated complete compatibility between Redflow’s ZBM3 zinc-bromine flow battery.

“The Deye integration process was straightforward because of the high degree of cooperation extended to Redflow by Deye’s Australian office during the course of the testing process,” said Hackett.

“We are really pleased with how well the Redflow battery and Deye product lines are working with each other.”

The Deye 10 kW and 12 kW 3-phase hybrid inverters are fully AS4777.2:2020 certified and CEC approved for the Australian market. Deye inverters can and integrate with solar PV arrays, 48 Vdc battery storage, grid, and generator connections in a single wall-mounted device.

For larger systems, up to 10 Deye inverters can be clustered together in parallel.

Redflow is also planning to offer Deye hybrid inverter integration in their new QuadPod energry storage solution – a custom designed, scalable, 40kWh pre-wired enclosure.
