Hi Giles, per this podcast, you are not alone wishing to maximise your rooftop PV usage charging your Model 3. At present it is possible to manually alter the charge Amps on the M3 screen. Is it too sensible for Tesla to add a smart charge feature, diverting variable excess energy from PV's to the Model 3? It would involve a CT on the grid wire attached to a wifi device communicating with the M3 charger. Powerwall has similar features. Here is a video showing a Zappi device dealing to this task:
