Australian energy retailer upstart Mojo Power has joined forces with energy management company Carbontrack, to give its customers the ability to monitor and control their electricity usage remotely and gain better control over power costs.
Carbontrack, which also recently teamed with zinc-bromine battery maker Redflow on virtual power plant capability, provides a smart gateway for consumers to access smart home controls, including customisable schedules and alerts. More broadly, the technology also offers demand-side management, peak shaving, storage integration, and VPP capabilities.
In a memorandum of understanding with Sydney-based Mojo – which was co-founded by the current chief of ARENA, Darren Miller – Carbontrack’s platform will give a select group of Mojo customers the ability to automatically turn off or defer energy usage during peak price periods.
Once these benefits are proven, Mojo says the plan is to then deploy the system more widely, as part of its commitment to give customers access to, and control of transparently priced and affordable energy.
“This is an exciting move for Mojo Power in building out our offerings of smart tools for residential and business customers,” said Mojo Power executive director, commercial, Adam MacDonald.
“We want our customers to enjoy simple plans, clear and accurate bills and access their electricity usage data if they choose to.
Carbontrack provides us with smart tools that give our customers the visibility to track and automatically manage their electricity usage,” he said.
Carbontrack managing director Spiros Livadaras said Mojo’s decision demonstrated the potential of his company’s technology when adopted by forward-thinking energy companies.
“Mojo is an innovative Australian electricity retailer that’s disrupting the status quo, so we are proud that our technology will help their customers both improve their quality of life and save money,” he said.
