Each year at One Step Off The Grid we bring you stories about Australian companies that are switching to renewables, either by generating their own power from rooftop solar and other clean energy technologies, or by purchasing it through corporate off-take deals.
Lately, it’s almost impossible to keep up with the number of businesses – small medium and large – that are making this shift, both to meet the environmental standards demanded by shareholders and customers, and to cut costs.
Which is why we give thanks for organisations like the Climate Council, which has not only been keeping a running tally of these businesses, but has put together a handy list of green food and beverage manufacturers to help us enjoy a very renewable festive season.
According to its final report for 2018, the Climate Council has counted more than 40,000 Australian businesses that are moving to renewable energy, “substantially reducing their power bills and helping address climate change.”
A great deal of these number in the food and beverage sector, including some of the most notable recent converts to renewables: Carlton and United Breweries, Mars, and Nectar Farms.
So without further ado, here is the Climate Council’s consumer guide on how to enjoy a renewables-supportive, and climate friendly festive season. Bon appétit!

As reported in the Conversation today what we eat makes a big difference to our climate impact. So if I'm a vegan using non-renewable power would the Climate Council prefer me to eat beef from a farm powered by renewable energy?
