Trina Solar marks 25 years in operation with major PV milestone

Published by

A happy news story this week – and this year, after a tough couple of years on the global solar-coaster – with Trina Solar announcing 100GW of cumulative module shipments, an impressive new milestone notched up in the same year as the company turns 25 years old.

China-based Trina, one of the world’s biggest manufacturers of solar PV, was founded in Changzhou city in 1997 around the time of the signing of the Kyoto Protocol, making it one of the world’s longest-running PV companies.

Trina said this week that the cumulative shipment of 100GW of PV modules – distributed between no less than 100 countries over 25 years – had generated about 135 billion kWh of clean power, and reduced annual global CO2 emissions by 135 million tonnes, and standard coal consumption by 54.54 million tonnes.

Just last month, Trina tapped Australia as the first country for the global launch of its latest residential rooftop PV panel, the up to 425W, double glass Vertex S+.

“We chose Australia for the launch of Vertex S+ to reinforce our position as Australia’s number one solar module brand and to capitalise on the tremendous growth in the commercial, industrial and residential solar market here,” said Trina Solar Asia Pacific president Todd Li, at the time.

From One Step Off The Grid and RenewEconomy, happy anniversary Trina Solar! And here’s to another 100GW and 25 years of shipments.
