Back-up and VPP ready: New hybrid solar inverter cleared for local installation

The Clean Energy Council (CEC) has approved a new single-phase hybrid inverter for installation that offers backup power, high-capacity PV input, and virtual power plant integration.

Chinese solar inverter manufacturer GoodWe announced last week that its GoodWe EHB Series single-phase hybrid inverter is now cleared for use in Australia.

The hybrid inverter is available in 5kW, 8.6kW and 10kW options, while also allowing for 200 per cent solar input oversizing of up to 20kW.

GoodWe says the new range combines inverter and battery management into one streamlined unit and is tailored for the growing energy demands of Australian households, including back-up power and VPP connection.

The EHB Series supports 80-495V batteries and 50A charge/discharge current and delivers backup power with less than 10ms switch time during outages to ensure appliances keep running.

GoodWe says the EHB Series is well suited to complex rooftop and mixed orientations while still being lightweight, compact, and easy to commission. It also offers a 10-year warranty and an IP65 rating with built-in Type II surge protection.

“We’re proud to introduce the EHB Series to the Australian market — a next-generation hybrid inverter range that delivers greater flexibility, integrated backup capability, and seamless VPP integration,” said Dean Williamson, GoodWe country manager for Australia and New Zealand.

“As energy needs evolve and incentives like the federal battery rebate drive uptake, the EHB Series ensures homeowners are equipped with a future-proof solution that’s reliable, smart, and ready to perform.”

CEC approval comes just in time for the EHB Series to take advantage of the Australian federal government’s Cheaper Home Batteries program which launched on July 1.

GoodWe expects its EHB Series will be a top contender for battery rebate installations under the new scheme.

The EHB Series is immediately available to installers and distributors for installation under all federal and state rebate programs.

“We’re excited to share that the new EHB hybrid inverter range has officially received Clean Energy Council (CEC) approval, ensuring full compliance with Australian standards and positioning it as rebate-ready under the Federal Battery Incentive Scheme,” added Williamson.

“This release reinforces our commitment to providing high-performance, smart storage solutions that support Australia’s rapid transition to sustainable energy.”
