Chinese PV inverter and energy storage system provider Sungrow has launched its latest residential energy storage system consisting of four new hybrid inverters and a new battery.

Sungrow unveiled its latest residential energy storage system at 2025 Southeast Asia Distribution Summit in Vietnam last week, featuring upgraded MG Series inverters covering power ranges from 5kW to 10kW.

Currently, the MG5RL/6RL are already available and compatible with over 50 third-party energy storage batteries, while the MG8RL/10RL models and the matching MGL060 battery are expected to be released in the fourth quarter.

The batteries feature large-capacity 314 Ah LFP cells with 8000 cycles, resulting in a lifespan triple that of average industry offerings.

In Australia, home batteries from Sungrow have been gaining in popularity, this year taking out equal first with the Tesla Powerwall in the annual installer rankings put together by Solar Quotes.

“It’s remarkable how Sungrow has closed the gap with Tesla, which won gold every year since 2021,” says Solar Quotes founder Finn Peacock.

“The Sungrow is an excellent battery, although the Sungrow hybrid inverter has had some teething problems. Its modular architecture is a great feature. I added an extra module —and it was as easy as advertised.”

According to Sungrow, the new energy storage system features full-power operation even at 45 °C ambient temperature and backup power switching within 4 milliseconds.

It’s also highly scalable, ranging from 5kW up to 80kW with up to eight units in parallel – making it suitable for everything from compact apartments to large estates and future expansion.

The system also adapts to a variety of needs from PV-only setups to fully off-grid situations and can be configured to install inverters and add battery later, or as a backup-only option.

And despite a small footprint, the system can deliver up to 200 per cent overload output for 10 seconds, otherwise delivering up to 200 per cent DC input and 160 per cent maximum output capacity.

This means that, for example, a 6kW inverter can simultaneously provide 6kW of rated AC output while charging the battery with 3.6kW of DC power – while also being “quieter than a library,” with noise levels as low as 35 dB.

The inverters are engineered to support up to 20A input current, making them compatible with virtually all PV modules on the market as well as mainstream third-party batteries.

The system also features Sungrow’s patented PID Zero technology that allows it to actively recover from PID effects without disconnecting from the grid, counteracting long-term power loss caused by heat and humidity.

The battery systems also offer a single click-activated fast charging option that can take the battery’s charge from 30 per cent to 100 per cent in an hour (based on a 6kW/6kWh system).

Sungrow’s latest iHomeManager forecast-based energy management system uses AI to tailor energy strategies based on your usage patterns, weather forecasts, dynamic electricity tariffs, and extreme weather alerts.
