Off-grid solar and battery technology developer Generators and Off Grid Energy (GenOffGrid) will move its headquarters from Western Australia to East Arm in Darwin as part of the Northern Territory’s Local Jobs Fund. Founded in 2017, GenOffGrid has developed a rapid deployable solar power station with lithium-ion battery storage that is capable of reducing diesel consumption in off-grid communities up to 94%. GenOffGrid’s “Solar Lithium Diesel Microgrids” have been deployed throughout Northern Australia on cattle stations, eco-tourism, agriculture projects, and in Indigenous communities. Completed microgrid projects have been completed across the Northern Territory and Western Australia, including at Dry River Station, Melaleuca Station, Ormiston Gorge Rangers Station, and Berkeley River Lodge, on the remote North Kimberley coastline. Attracted by a $3 million concessional business loan, GenOffGrid will immediately move its headquarters to Darwin and will expand to develop its support platform in Darwin. “We build remote solar power stations in Northern Australia and are very pleased to be supported by NT government to assist us strengthen our investment and fast track our go to market strategy from our East Arm facility,” said John Davidson, CEO of GenOffGrid. “Darwin is strategic for us as we will have access to import and export facilities that will reduce our trucking cost substantially for inbound goods and give us a regional competitive for the neighbouring island countries.” The Northern Territory government expects the relocation of GenOffGrid’s headquarters will help to create 20 jobs over the next two years and contribute an estimated $122 million to gross state product by 2029. “The Northern Territory is transitioning to a future where renewable energy will play a greater role in our energy consumption,” said Kate Worden, Northern Territory minister for renewables and energy. “We are working towards our target of net zero emissions by 2050 and this Local Jobs Fund loan will play a significant role in achieving this. “GenOffGrid will help us deliver more renewable energy solutions for Territorians.”
