Schneider Electric hybrid inverter certified for use in Australian homes

December 1, 2020 by Sophie Vorrath Leave a Comment

France-based Schneider Electric has announced that its XW Pro IEC hybrid inverter has met Clean Energy Council (CEC) safety requirements in Australia, paving the way for it to be used in “on-grid” installations, including home solar and battery systems.

Schneider Electric Solar said on Monday it had gained the AS4777 Standard certification for the XW Pro 8.5kW Hybrid Inverter/Charger which, with its 230 V output, allows for stacking of up to four units to deliver a power output of up to 34kW.

Schneider has also elsewhere confirmed that the XW Pro is compliant with the inverter standards introduced as mandatory for all new residential solar installations in South Australia, under that state’s strict new rules.

“The confirmation of the AS4777 certification and the compliance with the CEC standards for the XW Pro IEC is a big step towards entering the on-grid market in Australia,” said Schneider Electric Solar’s vice president of marketing, research and development, Bernhard Kiechl.

“We’re thrilled to offer our reliable solar and storage systems to homeowners and installers, contributing to the regions’ transition to a carbon-neutral energy landscape,” Kiechl said.

Schneider says the XW Pro offers an “attractive package” for its high overload power rating of 1.75x and its ability to integrate with multiple energy sources and lithium-ion batteries, allowing installers to cater to different customers’ needs.

The inverters come with a smart energy management feature – including access to Schneider Electric’s “robust” Insight platform for solar and storage systems, which offers monitoring and configuration capability with advanced data security for end-users and installers.

The inverters can be AC or DC coupled. And they offer “seamless transition to backup power” with an integrated high-speed transfer switch.

“The XW Pro, with the IEC configuration, was launched with a focus on expanding the XW line of products,” Schneider said.

“With the latest compliance certification, Schneider Electric looks to bring their field-proven, highly reliable XW Pro hybrid inverter to the Australian market.”
