The top postcodes for rooftop solar in Australia in 2015

January 20, 2016 by Giles Parkinson Leave a Comment

Suburbs and town in Western Australia and Queensland have dominated the list of the top postcodes for the installation of rooftop solar in Australian in 2015.
According to the latest data compiled by industry statistician SunWiz, the top rank went to the WA regional of Coondalup (postcode 6210, with 4.25MW for the year), another two WA postcodes in the top 10 and a further three in the top 20.

The number two spot nationally went to the Queensland town of Mackay, (postcode 4780, with 4.MW installed during the year. All told, Queensland accounted for 11 of the top 20 postcodes, and Victoria for 3. No postcodes in NSW or South Australia made the top 20.
But to illustrate the volatility of the market, SunWiz noted that while the WA postcodes were mostly accelerating their uptake (Coondalup was up 34 per cent over the year), Queensland towns and regions were slowing down, with Mackay falling by one third in capacity from the previous year.
