Swiss technology giant ABB has launched a new home energy monitoring and management solution which is operated through its single smart home app.
Designed to help address rising energy costs, high demand on power grids, and an increasing number of electric vehicles, the system combines a smart home system, energy management and EV charging controls.
Built into ABB’s existing ABB-free@home smart home ecosystem, the new energy management tool is capable of automating and optimising energy consumption to better help homeowners control energy bills and navigate increasing instances of energy scarcity.
The new system is able to interact with heat pumps, rooftop solar PV systems, and EVs, and provides different levels of energy management integration.
A balance of power
Importantly, it can also balance energy available and demand so as to make efficient usage of energy through different prioritisation of load. Users can also specify and direct the system around their own priorities.
For example, as ABB highlight, the management system can be directly connected and exercise control of an EV charger.
Using other ABB-specific systems and technologies, the energy management system can also deliver holistic energy management.
ABB’s own System pro M compact InSite solution provides further integration with third party companies and domestic appliances.
“This kind of visualised fingertip intelligence was, until now, the preserve of commercial buildings,” said Olaf Quittmann, global product manager at ABB Electrification’s Smart Buildings division.
“Not only does this empower homeowners to better manage their immediate energy bills, but it will also help them to optimise their consumption habits over the long term.”
