Australian made rooftop solar module tops charts on power output

May 20, 2025 by Joshua S Hill Leave a Comment

Australia’s only solar panel manufacturer, Tindo Solar, has topped the rankings for the best-performing rooftop solar module in the country, according to consumer advocacy outfit, Choice.

Choice tested 15 rooftop solar panels at the end of 2024 and found that the Adelaide-based Tindo’s 410W Karra panel scored the only “Excellent measured power output” rating of all the panels tested.

Testing the 410W Karra yielded a power output of 417W, greater than its specified rating, as compared to the other solar panels in the review which each produced less than the manufacturer’s claimed output.

It was also the only Australian-made solar panel in the Choice panel review, and its monocrystalline PERC solar panel out-performed other higher-priced panels.

Tindo’s 410W Karra subsequently achieved an overall 92 per cent ‘Choice Expert Rating’, well ahead of the next closest expert rating of 80 per cent.

“With a workforce of sixty people, we design and build a solar panel that competes with the best in the world,” said Richard Petterson, CEO of Tindo, who added that the Choice product review was a validation of the engineering and manufacturing effort carried out at the company’s Adelaide factory.

“Choice’s recognition of our panel is a great outcome for the company and for the customers who invest in an Australian-made, premium product.

“Tindo makes a significant investment in its R&D program, and we run an in-house engineering team that is constantly working on product improvements and upgrades. The panel that gained the Choice accolade is the eighth generation of solar panel produced by Tindo since the company made its first solar panel in 2011.”

The latest 2025 Choice expert ratings are hidden behind the group’s members-only paywall, making the final rankings and other panels reviewed unknown to those without a membership.
