Australia’s only solar manufacturer launches new generation of PV panels

Tindo Solar, Australia’s only solar module manufacturer, announced on Monday the launch of its new generation of Walara solar panels, available in both 440 and 475 watt and module efficiency of around 22 per cent, depending on the panel.

The new Tindo Walara G4P Series Solar Panels are the 9th generation solar modules manufactured at the company’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in South Australia and will be available as a 440 W panel in standard format, and a 475 W panel in all-black.

Both new panels feature a busbar increase from 10 to 16 to increase overall efficiency and are powered by N-type TOPCon technology, delivering what Tindo describes as “fully optimised output, efficiency, and durability.”

The 440 W Walara panel boasts a module efficiency of up to 22.6 per cent, while the 475 W Walara all-black module delivers a slightly reduced module efficiency of up to 21.9 per cent.

The panels have also undergone a rigorous and independent qualification test for cyclone, hail, damp heat, and a thermal range of -40˚C to 85˚C.

Tindo also puts the panels through a seven-point process to ensure “Zero-Defect” manufacturing which produces a fail rate of only 1 in every 200,000 – around 200-times better than the industry average.

“We service the premium solar panel market, which means our design and engineering teams have built the best reliability, efficiency and durability into these Walara panels,” said Richard Petterson, Tindo CEO.

Petterson says the new panels are a product of Tindo’s in-house engineering and research and development, with input from installer partners, external research teams, and the best technology from global supply chains.

“The development of the two latest panels in the Walara series is a direct reflection of the feedback shared by our customers.”

Each panel is backed by a 25-year limited product warranty and a 25-year limited performance guarantee of 87.4 per cent. As of writing, only the Walara 440 W panel is immediately available for order through Tindo’s selected distribution partners, with the Walara 475 W all-black solar panel to follow in September.

“In Kaurna Warra, the language of the Adelaide Plains traditional owners, Walara means ‘intelligent’, ‘smart’, and ‘bright’,” said Petterson.

“That’s what we set out to design and manufacture, and I’m proud of what the Tindo team has achieved.”

The launch of the new Walara solar panels comes a fortnight after Tindo secured $34.5 million in funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to scale up domestic production at its Mawson Lakes facility in South Australia.

The ARENA funding, from the federal government’s $1 billion Solar Sunshot Program, will scale up Tindo’s annual production output from 20 to 180 megawatts (MW) through the introduction of advanced automation and expanding its product range to include premium N-type solar modules.

“As the only homegrown solar module manufacturer, Tindo brings unmatched local expertise to the table,” said Darren Miller, ARENA CEO, earlier this month. ‘

“With deep knowledge of our labour market and manufacturing processes, they’re uniquely placed to help scale up and strengthen our solar PV industry.”
