Perth-based energy storage and off-grid power system specialist Magellan Power has launched a residential battery energy storage system, in time to catch the wave of the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate.

The Karri Home Battery System is a scalable and virtual power plant compatible lithium-iron phosphate system offering an energy storage capacity ranging from 9.6 kWh to 25 kWh and inverter capacities from 5 kW to 15 kW.

The all-in-one system combines a lithium battery pack, hybrid inverter and air cooling unit, contained within a marine-grade aluminium enclosure available in white, sea foam or black, with a customisable lighting feature.

Magellan says the battery system has a “multilayered safety system” including fire suppression, gas and smoke detection, infrared thermal monitoring, mechanical shock sensors and an emergency shutdown button.

Magellan says the “modular capacity and advanced safety features” of its Karri unit make it a “strong contender” to participate strongly in the federal government’s Cheaper Home Batteries scheme.

“The Karri Home Battery System is a passion project and reflects our commitment to delivering world-class energy solutions that are designed, built, and supported right here in Australia,” said Magellan managing director Masoud Abshar.

“We have developed a premium product, designed in-house with proprietary technology and equipped with world-class safety features and high-quality Australian manufacturing.”

The Karri battery has also been given the seal of approval from the Australian Made Campaign, and will display the campaign’s prominent gold kangaroo, highlighting Magellan’s use of local manufacturing.

The home battery system comes with a 10-year warranty, optional 24-hour, seven-day remote safety monitoring and dedicated local service teams. It offers blackout protection – power back-up – and performance monitoring via a Karri Mobile App.
