Inverter maker GoodWe and PV giant Jinko Solar have collaborated with a group of companies to donate and install solar systems for two new homes built for people living with disabilities in regional Victoria.
The two homes were delivered through not-for-profit Community Living & Respite Services (CLRS) Opening Doors Project, which provides purpose-built housing for people living with disabilities.
Over the past 10 years, CLRS has built housing for 22 people in the towns of Echuca and Moama and surrounding districts and recently completed its fifth housing project consisting of two new homes.
The two new homes are being fitted with donated solar systems, including inverters from GoodWe, solar panels from Jinko, balance-of-system components and racking from AWM, and professional solar installation services provided by Ryan Moorhouse of RGM Electrical.
GoodWe says AWM worked with RGM Electrical to donate the value from the STCs (Small-scale Technology Certificate) derived through the federal government’s rooftop solar rebate from both solar installations, back to CLRS.
“There is a population of people with disabilities here in Northern Victoria that need access to a safe and secure home environment, along with essential care to progress personal goals and develop skills, increasing independence at home and in the community,” said Leah Taffe, CEO of CLRS.
“Through the generous support of individuals and local businesses, we aim to continue our Opening Doors project in building high-quality, purpose-built homes that are easy to maintain and provide those in need with a home that suits their needs and promotes growth and independence for the best quality of life possible.”
Sam Barry, from AWM in Echuca says the ongoing energy costs for the houses – which are also fitted with electric hot water and induction cooktops – will be “massively reduced” through the two solar systems.
“We are thankful to AWM Echuca for the opportunity to support the amazing work of CLRS by making this donation, along with other fantastic support from Jinko Solar and RGM Electrical,” said Dean Williamson, country manager for GoodWe Australia.
“GoodWe are passionate about giving back to the community as often as possible and in as many diverse ways as we can.
“We hope to continue to support them through future Opening Doors projects.”
