Australian rooftop solar system sales dipped slightly in June, even as average system sizes have set a new record.

According to the latest data from Sunwiz, Australian homes and businesses installed a total of 251MW worth of rooftop solar PV in June, a slight 6% decrease on May. The figure was well above those seen in June 2020 and 2022 but were“substantially lower than those seen in June 2021.

However, Australia’s small-scale solar year-to-date installation figures are nevertheless 20% ahead of the volumes seen at the same time last year, and the industry still expects the total to reach 3GW for the full calendar year.

Among the various states, Queensland was able to hold relatively steady with a 1% monthly growth in new solar systems, backed by minor declines in the ACT, Northern Territory, and South Australia.

However, in the words of Sunwiz, “the market was let down by NSW” which saw a 7% drop and “fell back to its straight-line average” while both Victoria and Western Australia also fell below their own averages, dropping 9% and 17% respectively.

Sunwiz also noted that the average system size has now risen to a record 9.57kW –  buoyed by the number of commercial systems (sub 100kW) holding relatively steady.
