Solar giant joins home battery market with “all-in-one” scalable offering

September 14, 2022 by Joshua S Hill Leave a Comment

CSI Solar, a subsidiary of solar manufacturing giant Canadian Solar, is set to launch a new all-in-one residential energy storage solution, called the EP Cube, which is scalable from 9.9kWh up to 19.9kWh and which the company claims can “power entire homes.”

Canadian Solar announced on Tuesday that CSI Solar would launch the EP Cube at the upcoming RE+ trade show being held next week in Anaheim, California, with an official launch on September 21.

The EP Cube is marketed as “scalable and customisable” and can be stacked from 9.9kWh to 19.9kWh. Further, Canadian Solar claims that up to six units can be connected in parallel to deliver up to 119.9kWh of storage and 45.6kW of output.

Utilising an all-in-one design, a hybrid inverter, and stackable battery modules, the EP Cube measures only 6.25 inches at its thinnest, helping to minimise the necessary wall space for installation.

Lightweight at less than 32 kilograms and easy to install, the EP Cube features all-inclusive components and self-configuration for fast commissioning, and works with both new and retrofit, AC- and DC-coupled solar PV systems.

“We are pleased to expand our clean energy offering into the residential energy storage market by launching the EP Cube, leveraging our existing partnerships and channels,” said Dr. Shawn Qu, chairman and CEO of Canadian Solar.

“The EP Cube is a perfect solution for homeowners to use these incentives and invest in clean energy.”

A companion app for the EP Cube will help homeowners manage their energy storage systems, providing easy and real-time monitoring of energy production and consumption. Homeowners will also benefit from home energy management and over-the-air (OTA) software update services, ensuring the EP Cube remains up to date at all times.

The EP Cube also incorporates Canadian Solar’s ‘Smart Gateway’, an intelligent technology that enables automatic and seamless energy transfers for on- and off-grid use without user disruption.
