State-owned renewable energy company SEC Victoria is partnering with Australian hardware and garden centre giant Bunnings to run a series of “Why Electrify” weekends at select stores across the state aimed at helping Victorian households save on their energy bills by switching to electric.

A series of interactive “Why Electrify” weekends will be run at four stores through the remainder of the year.

The sessions will allow participants to learn about appliances, explore products, and get advice from home energy experts on how electric appliances can cut bills, improve comfort, and reduce emissions.

There will also be fun hands-on workshops and activities for kids.

“Switching your heating, hot water and cooktop to electric can reduce your household energy bills, while improving your comfort and reducing emissions,” said Sumone Chakravarti, SEC executive general manager for consumer and innovation.

“By working with Bunnings, we’re bringing this information directly to where people shop and making it easy and fun for households to learn what’s possible.”

The “Why Electrify” weekends will run from 11am to 3pm at the following Bunnings locations:

  • Narre Warren – Saturday 18 October
  • Altona – Saturday 15 November
  • Melton East – Saturday 29 November
  • Epsom Bendigo – Saturday 13 December

Victorian households can save as much as between $1,700 and $2,000 on their energy bills by converting an existing home from gas to electricity, increasing to as much as $2,700 when paired with a standard rooftop solar system.

SEC and Bunnings hope that the four “Why Electrify” sessions help inform Victorians as well as provide answers for those who are already considering electrification.

“We know many people find home electrification complex, so these events are aimed at helping our customers understand what options are available to them and how they can help reduce cost of living challenges,” said Sonya Rand, head of sustainability at Bunnings.

“These events are a great opportunity for families to see practical demonstrations, ask questions, and get inspired about the benefits of electrification. So come along and speak to experts and let our friendly team help you with product options.”
