Californian energy technology company and home battery pioneer, Enphase Energy, has unveiled its fourth-generation residential energy storage system, featuring the 7.08-kilowatt (kW) IQ Battery 10C.
As well as the battery, the Enphase Energy System includes the IQ Meter Collar and the IQ Combiner 6C, which together boast a smaller footprint than previous systems, as well as enhanced features and easier installation.
At the heart of the new system is the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) IQ Battery 10C, which delivers 7.08 kW of continuous power and offers 10 kW-hours (kWh) of usable energy, making it capable of supporting heavy start-up loads like HVAC systems and pool pumps.
The new offering from Enphase is billed as an “all-in-one, AC-coupled storage system” with a remarkably compact form factor, measuring 71cm wide, 62cm high, and 36.5cm deep.
Enphase says the new system delivers nearly 34 per cent greater energy density while taking up to 62 per cent less wall space compared to previous generation systems.
The battery is scalable from 10 kWh to 80 kWh and includes built-in neutral-forming microinverters that enable backup functionality while still reducing the amount of internal hardware. It is capable of integrating 240 V and 120 V microinverters.
Complementing the battery is the IQ Meter Collar which provides microgrid interconnection device (MID) functionality, and the IQ Combiner 6, which consolidates interconnection equipment into one enclosure.
At this stage, the new battery appears to be limited to a rollout in the United States – it is being manufactured in Texas using domestic content from US contract manufacturing facilities.
This should help solar and storage projects qualify for the current Domestic Content Bonus Credit, a holdover from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) passed under former President Joe Biden.
“With the launch of our 4th-generation Enphase Energy System, we’re delivering smarter, more efficient, and more powerful solutions that simplify installation, enhance reliability, and provide greater value to homeowners,” said Ken Fong, senior vice president and general manager of the Americas and APAC at Enphase Energy.
“We’re excited to continue driving innovation and supporting installers in bringing cutting-edge solar and storage technology to more customers worldwide.”
