Australia's top 10 solar postcodes

June 1, 2016 by Sophie Vorrath Leave a Comment

It is always interesting to see where in Australia solar is being adopted the most. As last week’s Climate Council report noted, patterns have consistently shown that the suburbs with highest levels of rooftop solar PV in Australia generally also have low to medium average incomes and tend to be located in the outer metropolitan “mortgage belt”, or in regional areas.
The below top 10 solar postcodes – represented in the charts and graphs below – come from the Clean Energy Council’s 2015 report on the state of renewable energy in Australia. Looking forward, and in light of the findings of this week’s report from The Australia Institute, it is interesting to note that these same postcodes may well end up leading the charge on battery storage uptake, too, as solar households around the country try to get the most from the energy they are generating.

As the CEC report says, Bundaberg in Queensland, continues to carry the mantle for Australia’s top solar postcode, followed by Mandurah in WA. The remaining eight postcodes are also in Queensland.
