Solar Insiders Podcast July 18

July 18, 2018 by Giles Parkinson and Nigel Morris Leave a Comment

Solar bad, solar good. Two big reports – from the ACCC and the AEMO – give conflicting visions about the future of rooftop solar.
The ACCC targets rooftop solar for the most decisive action, suggesting that up-front rebates be abandoned by 2021. It bases this assessment on the assumed cost of 40c a week, while ignoring the considerable benefits.
The AEMO report, on the other hand, talks of rooftop solar supplying up to 22% of all demand by 2040, part of the huge shift from the centralised model of electricity to a decentralised model.
In this episode, we discuss these two reports, as well as the latest discussions on industry quality, more evidence of “phoenixing, and the latest from the world of EVs.
