Solar Insiders Podcast: The power of putting First Nations first

October 12, 2023 by Giles Parkinson and Sophie Vorrath Leave a Comment

After meeting with Aboriginal elders at Narrandera, in regional New South Wales, Beon Energy Solutions’ Justin Coburn employed local Wiradjuri and Yorta Yorta woman Shaurntae Lyons to help coordinate community engagement for the construction of Iberdrola’s 240MW Avonlie Solar Farm.

We talk to Justin and Shaurntae about how their teamwork has left a lasting legacy on the town and set a new benchmark for how renewable energy developers can work with Australia’s First Nations communities. Plus: Why AEMO wants a solar switch-off mechanism in all parts of the NEM.
